Miralem Pjanic to Chelsea

Chelsea are interested in signing midfielder Miralem Pjanic from Juventus and right now, they are the front runners in this deal, as per the Guardian.

Pjanic joined the Old Lady from Roma in 2016 but this season, Bosnian international has failed to win the trust of new manager Maurizio Sarri which is why the Turin outfit are willing to part ways with the 30-year-old and are willing to send him to Chelsea if they can get Jorginho in return.

The report says: “Juventus and Chelsea have begun negotiations about a possible summer swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic and Jorginho. The Juventus manager, Maurizio Sarri, would like to sign the Italy international, with whom he worked at Napoli and Chelsea, and is ready to sacrifice Pjanic to do so.

“The Serie A side have also had discussions about the Bosnian joining Barcelona or Paris St-Germain.”

This news will be a big blow for Barcelona and also PSG both of whom have been linked with the midfielder but unlike a number of other people, we do not think Chelsea manager Frank Lampard should be too eager to bring Miralem Pjanic on board for the next season.

Should Chelsea sign Miralem Pjanic?

There are a couple of reasons why the Blues should avoid signing Miralem Pjanic during the summer especially in exchange of Juventus.

The first one being the fact that the Juventus man is already 30 years old and Chelsea are known to offer only short-term contracts to players who are above 30. So in such a scenario, it will be a real risk to offer a three or five-year deal to someone who has entered the final phase of his playing career.

Like Jorginho, Pjnaic is also a defensive midfielder but playing in the Premier League needs a totally different skill set. Just ask the former Napoli superstar who was dubbed the pass-master in Italy.

Jorginho has finally found his form after grinding a lot and right now, Frank Lampard just cannot afford to devote that same amount of time and luxury to Pjnaic as well.

Finally, there’s a chance N’Golo Kante could be on his way to Real Madrid in the summer so the last thing the Chelsea manager would want is to be stuck with a defensive midfielder who fails to adapt to the speed and physicality of the English Premier League.

While this might look like a very straight forward and lucrative deal, we think Lampard should just walk away from it as there’s no point in taking a gamble with a 30-year-old.
