Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen joined the club from Monchengladbach back in 2017 and last season, the Danish international was a key figure in defence.

During the 2017-18 season, Christensen played in 27 league games for the Blues but this campaign under Maurizio Sarri, the centre-back has mostly been a bench warmer.

The Italian manager preferred David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger in central defence meaning Christensen was only able to feature in 15 Premier League games this past season.

The fact that the 23-year-old had received so little game time was a clear indication that he would be heading out of Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.

But the player has now come out to claim that he has no intentions of moving out of Chelsea.

Christensen said: “I’m not wondering about my future now, and I haven’t done that for some time. I’m happy to be in London, and with the way the season has evolved, there’s no reason to think about it anymore.”

“I played two seasons in the Bundesliga and a season stuck in Chelsea, and after all, I’m only 23 years old, so it’s probably very wise to stay.

“It’s nice that there is peace and quiet, and I can concentrate on playing football.”

“I have always been happy, but there have been times when I wanted to play the game more. If I can play as much in the future as I have done in the spring, then that’s fine…”

Maurizio Sarri has asked to leave Chelsea this summer which is why it would be wise for Christensen to stay back and try his luck with the new manager.

David Luiz is already 32 years old meaning the Brazilian could be shown the door at Stamford Bridge anytime now. And in such a scenario, Andreas Christensen is his obvious replacement.
