Manchester United have released Ander Herrera after the player did not agree to sign a new deal at the club and now Solskjaer is looking to bring in a long-term replacement.

While a number of players have recently been linked with the Red Devils during the past few weeks but one rumour that just refuses to die down is that of Declan Rice.

Declan Rice is currently playing for West Ham United and the midfielder has had a meteoric rise during the 2018-19 season.

This past season, Declan Rice rose into prominence under Manuel Pellegrini and he was more or less a regular in the first XI for the Hammers – alongside Mark Noble.

He has also put in some impressive shifts with the England national side having decided to play for the Three Lions after deserting the Republic of Ireland and it seemed as if Ole wanted to bring him on board this summer.

Now though, reports are suggested that Man United might have given up hope to sign the midfielder.

Manuel Pellegrini rates Declan Rice very highly and the manager has decided to make his new look side surrounding the 20-year-old.

And hence Solskjaer believes there is no point in putting in so much effort on a seemingly lost cause.

With the signing of Daniel James, it is sure that Ole has opted to focus more on British talent instead of making marquee signings but given Declan Rice just signed a new deal at West Ham last December, Man United will have to shell out a hell lot of money in order to bring the youngster on board.

Instead Man United have decided to focus on other players and this will certainly be music to the ears of Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers boss spent a lot of money last summer and this year too he is expected to bring in a couple of new signings. And the fact that the club will be able to hold onto Declan Rice will be nothing short of a huge victory for the London outfit.
