Donny van de Beek got a rare start for Manchester United as the Red Devils faced Leicester City in the FA Cup this past weekend. But the Dutchman delivered yet another flop show.

Van de Beek has been struggling for gametime all throughout the season and after spending a few weeks on the sidelines with an injury, the FA Cup tie was his time to shine. But, Man United ended up losing the match 3-1 and have now been knocked out of the tournament.

So far, the Dutch international has featured in only 13 Premier League games this season, scoring one goal and assisting none. And according to Mark Hughes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have no other option but to show the midfielder the exit doors.

“Clearly it’s difficult, he hasn’t had enough game time and you can see that in his play,” Hughes told Stadium Astro, as quoted by The Independent.

“He’s wandering and not really getting on the ball, doesn’t know how to affect the game, can’t demand the ball of his team-mates because they’re not quite sure whether or not they have enough confidence in him.

“He looks like a guy who’s wandering around lost on the field. Okay, some of that responsibility he has to take on himself, he has to be more demonstrative, he has to be a key player.”

Man United paid an initial fee of £35 million to sign Van de Beek last summer but the midfielder has done nothing to prove his worth to the side.

A few days ago, there had been reports that the player was happy at the club despite the lack of playing time but after his dismal show vs Leicester City, the Manchester United boss might be on the verge of losing his patience.

After this, almost every match is a must-win for the Premier League side so we don’t think Donny van de Beek will see too many starts until the end of the season. And once the summer transfer window rolls in, the manager could promptly try and offload him.

Manchester United are looking to make a few top-class signings for the upcoming season and with Bruno Fernandes in peak form, Solskjaer is more than likely to be tempted to sell Donny van de Beek to raise funds for his new arrivals.
