Celtic FC are desperately trying to sign Fraser Forster on a permanent deal after his successful loan spell with the Bhoys during the 2019-20 season.

But if a report from the Football Insider is to be believed then Neil Lennon should be giving up his chase of the Southampton man and shift his focus elsewhere.

The report claims: “Celtic face an almost impossible battle to sign Fraser Forster permanently this summer due to his extraordinary Southampton contract.

“Football Insider can reveal for the first time details of the five-year deal the giant keeper penned in the summer of 2017.

“A Saints source has explained the agreement is worth £5million a year, equivalent to just shy of £100,000-a-week.

“That is worth three times more than the salary earned by Celtic’s top earners Scott Brown, Christopher Jullien and Callum McGregor and is a jaw-dropping sum for a Premier League third-choice keeper.”

Will Fraser Forster move to Celtic?

The only way that Celtic will be able to sign Fraser Forster is if the keeper is ready to take a massive pay cut in order to join the Parkhead outfit.

But we are not sure if the keeper is willing to walk on that path given that a number of other clubs are keen to sign him as well.

As per some rumours, a PL club is keeping tabs on him and £100,000-a-week should not be a big problem for a top division English club.

So it’s better Neil Lennon stops wasting his time on trying to convince Fraser Forster and move to his other targets like Claudio Bravo and Ben Foster, both of whom will be free agents this summer.

Also, if this was not problem enough then Southampton reportedly want around £10 million for Fraser Forster. So it would make much more sense to ditch this move and sign a keeper as a free agent and pay him an inflated salary.
