Rangers FC have lost Joe Worrall this summer after the defender returned back to Nottingham following the expiry of his loan deal.

And it looks like George Edmundson is set to become the long-term replacement for Worrall.

George Edmundson has been on the radar for the Gers for a couple of months now but up until last week, it was being hinted that the centre-back will not be moving to Ibrox this summer.

This was because Portsmouth and Peterborough had both made bids for the 21-year-old and as per reports, Oldham had accepted both these offers.

And due to this, both the interested clubs were now free to hold talks with the defender but as per the latest reports, it is being claimed that George Edmundson is not keen to join neither Portsmouth nor Peterborough.

Instead, the defender is keen to play under Steven Gerrard for the 2019-20 season.

“Despite the multiple twists and turns in the race for Edmundson’s signature, Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers are in the driving seat to sign him.

“They are set to increase their previous highest offer of £500,000 plus add-ons this week in an attempt to secure an agreement with Oldham and finalise the transfer.”

Since George Edmundson wants to move to Ibrox this summer it is more than evident that Rangers are the favourites to land the player in the coming few weeks.

The 21-year-old has been a key player for Oldham last season having featured in 54 games across all competitions and if he does join Rangers then surely he will be the ideal replacement for Joe Worrall.

George Edmundson has one year left on his current deal with the club but if the Gers want to sign him then they will have to shell out atleast £600,000 since this is the same amount that Portsmouth and Peterborough are willing to pay for the centre-back.
