Chelsea picked up a much-deserving 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League meaning Liverpool are now officially the champions after 30 long years.

And with this win, the Blues have also been able to maintain their fourth spot on the table and are steadily closing in on Leicester City, who sit on the third spot.

Frank Lampard is obviously overjoyed with his team’s performance against the champions of the previous season but at the same time, the Chelsea boss has warned that matching up to teams like Man City and Liverpool will not be an overnight task.

‘They are two of if not the best teams in the world,’ the Chelsea boss said after the win, as per the club’s official website.

‘They are going to be there, and it’s clear to us that’s a gap we want to try and breach and move towards.

‘One result against City and a good performance is a great feeling tonight, but the reason we haven’t amassed enough points is because of consistency, which those two teams have reached.

‘There’s a clear gap and it won’t happen overnight with one or two signings. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done.

‘Liverpool and City have been a work in progress for a good few years now, they’ve had a lot of success and they’re getting success now.

‘I’m not going to get carried away. We can get better. We can be better on the ball; we can have more possession. This was one of the only games where we didn’t have the lion’s share of possession, and we have to accept that and be happy with the result.’

Frank Lampard has done some really great work at Chelsea over the past year, both on as well as off the pitch.

After failing to sign any new players over the past two transfer windows, the management have also appropriately backed their manager by signing players like Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

The Blues without a doubt are moving forward under their young manager but their true mettle will be tested next season when teams like Manchester United and Arsenal have also rebuilt their squad and are ready to challenge for the title.
