Inter Miami hit the ground running earlier this week in the MLS but unfortunately, they had to taste defeat in their their first match, losing 1-0 to LAFC.

Carlos Vela scored the only goal of the match and immediately after the match there have chatters about the new MLS side’s failure to bring in a proper DP[Designated Player]

As per Wikipedia, the Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player).

The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international soccer market.

Right now, Inter Miami have Matias Pellegrini and Rodolfo Pizarro as their Designated Players meaning they still have a slot open for the third player.

But club owner Jorge Mas has made it clear that this marque signing will only arrive during the summer hinting at the fact that Inter Miami could be going after an European superstar.

“We have one open DP [Designated Player] spot. It’s going to be geared toward a striker,” Mas told MLS Soccer.

“Everyone has been expecting a really big name and some from Europe. There’s a possibility that we wait until the summer transfer window, for that ‘nine’.”

There have already been rumours about Inter Miami trying to get their hands on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but by no means are they targeting only these two players.

According to various reports, here are the players that Inter Miami are possibly looking at before the summer transfer window:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo – Juventus.

2. Lionel Messi – Barcelona.

3. Luis Suarez – Barcelona.

4. Sergio Aguero – Manchester City.

5. Radamel Falcao – Galatasaray.

6. James Rodriguez – Real Madrid.

7. David Silva – Manchester City.

8. Luka Modric – Real Madrid.

9. Ivan Rakitic – Barcelona.

10. Edinson Cavani – PSG.

11. Antoine Griezmann – Barcelona.
