Jadon Sancho wanted by Man United
Jadon Sancho is one of the players who is expected to make a move back to the Premier League this summer

Manchester United are right now the favourites to land Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho during the summer – as per various sources.

The English international is one of the brightest young talents in European football right now and despite a number of big names showing interest in signing him, it is Man United who look to have won the race.

Sancho has time and again hinted about the prospect of heading back to the Premier League and recently BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had admitted the club will not look to hold him back if the 20-year-old wants to move out.

“You always have to respect what the player wants,” Watzke told Bild, as reported by Sky Sports. “We already said before corona that our preference is for Jadon to remain with us.

“I can say clearly that even the very rich clubs, despite the current existential crisis, shouldn’t think they can get a bargain from us. We don’t have to sell anyone below their value.”

Various reports have suggested that Dortmund are eyeing to pocket a little more than £100 million from this transfer but now Paul Merson has warned the German side that their high hopes could be shattered quite easily.

As per Merson, the days of absurd transfer fees are gone meaning BVB will have to chop down their asking rate for Jadon Sancho.

He wrote in his Daily Star column: “All the talk about Jadon Sancho commanding a £100m-plus transfer fee has been blown out of the water if you ask me.

“Borussia Dortmund are said to be demanding in excess of that figure for one of Europe’s hottest young talents, but they can forget it.

“There’s no way that’s going to be happening. It’s gone – over and out. Top clubs can’t be putting staff on furlough and then start forking out that kind of money the minute the transfer window opens.

“It’s not just the fee, but with players in that price bracket comes a pay packet of around £300,000 a week and that’s just not going to be happening. The landscape has changed not just for everyone on the planet but for football as well. Really big-money moves may be off the table for quite some time.

“With the financial situation as it is, how would it look for clubs struggling to pay their staff and then transfer deadline day arrives and it flashes up on the screen that £900m or whatever has been splashed out on players? “There would be uproar.”

The ongoing pandemic is set to bring about a number of changes to the football world and perhaps the biggest impact will fall on the transfer market.

While Man United have hinted that despite the troubles they will try and sign their top priority targets and Jadon Sancho remains at the very top of the list.

But despite all the talk, BVB know it for a fact they will have to deal with this situation very carefully since if Manchester United pull the plug not too many clubs in Europe will be willing to fork out such a large sum of money especially during a financial crisis situation.
