Liverpool FC have been stung by a series of damping injuries during the past couple of months and perhaps the biggest of them has been to Joe Gomez.

Joe Gomez along with Virgil Van Dijk was the centre-back pairing of choice for Jurgen Klopp since the start of the season and to be honest the duo looked impenetrable.

But the player picked up an ankle injury during the first week of December and since then he has been on the sidelines.

Joe Gomez was scheduled to return late January but then the club confirmed that a surgery needed to be performed which further delayed his rehab.

Now though, Jurgen Klopp has claimed that the defender is making rapid progress and the club are expecting to see him in action right after the international break.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I think after the international break Joe should be OK. If nobody gets injured before then we’ll have a proper choice.

“Joe is doing his rehab and looks good, big steps, outside running and all these things.

“Dejan is looking good and now starts proper training. He could be ready again after Everton,”

Klopp has also revealed that Alex Oxlade Chamberlain – who has been out for almost a year, is back in training and should play some role this season.

“Ox is doing 70% of team training,” Klopp added.

“He trains full but not as much as the others. Then he leaves a bit early to do something else and the things he needs.

“Everyone is always looking for a reaction but nothing has happened yet. We have to prepare him for his entire career, not just one particular game. When he’s in training it looks very nice.”

Liverpool will take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday in the Merseyside Derby and Jurgen Klopp should have three fit defenders[Van Dijk, Matip and Dejan Lovren] for that clash.
