Liverpool want to sign Saul Niguez as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum but at the moment, the Premier League side are not the favourites to sign the 26-year-old.

Recent rumours suggest the Atletico Madrid midfielder is eager to join Barcelona which is why The Express are claiming that Liverpool are ready to make their offer sweeter by offering a first-team player in return.

The report claims: “Liverpool could include one of Divock Origi or Xherdan Shaqiri in a deal to bring Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez to Anfield this summer, per reports.

“The Reds have reportedly had an opening bid of £34million rejected according to Mundo Deportivo, as Saul’s suitors appear to be holding out for £42m.

“Saul, 26, will certainly be Liverpool’s top transfer target this summer window since midfielder Gini Wijnaldum left for PSG on a free transfer.”

Both Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri are not important to Jurgen Klopp’s plan next season which is why the German manager is ready to send them away so Liverpool can sign Saul Niguez.

While this is a good and realistic plan from the Premier League side but we don’t think Liverpool can still stand at the front of the queue.

Barcelona want to cut their wage bills for the next season which is why they are ready to send Antoine Griezmann back to Atletico Madrid in a swap deal for Saul.

And add to that the fact that Saul Niguez is also keen to head to Camp Nou, Liverpool stand a really slim chance at signing the 26-year-old.

Liverpool will have to pay a huge transfer fee for Saul since the midfielder’s current deal with the Spanish side expires in 2026 and we are not sure if the Anfield outfit are ready to cough up an inflated price.

According to the latest updates, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are already in advanced talks over a swap deal for Saul Niguez and Griezmann.
