Chelsea are currently the frontrunners to sign Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne and the Blues could make a move as early as January.

Insigne is a youth product at Napoli and after moving through various loan spells the forward is now one of the main players at the Italian club.

Known for his goal-scoring prowess, Lorenzo Insigne has already clocked up six goals in just matches for Napoli which includes a 90th-minute winner against Liverpool in the Champions League this week.

Maurizio Sarri is well aware of the capabilities that Insigne possesses and the former Napoli boss is planning to bring the £100 million forward to Stamford Bridge next year.

Lorenzo Insigne’s current contract with the Serie A side expires in 2022 so the club are in no hurry to offload him meaning the 27-year-old will surely be sold at an inflated price.

Insigne primarily operates on the left wing – a position that is currently occupied by Eden Hazard but the Belgian could move out of Chelsea and join Real Madrid next summer. So it makes perfect sense that Sarri is already looking for replacements.

But should Liverpool also join the race to sign Lorenzo Insigne?

Jurgen Klopp has seen first hand what a potent player the 27-year-old is and he will most certainly be a fine addition to his squad.

If Liverpool do go on and sign Insigne then Sadio Mane will have some apt competition given the player is currently the undisputed king on the left winger for the Reds.

Apart from playing down the left-hand flank, Lorenzo Insigne can also play as a forward meaning Roberto Firmino will get a much-needed support as and when needed.

Currently, though, Liverpool have no interest in Lorenzo Insigne whatsoever and Chelsea are practically running a one-horse race. But if the forward keeps up the pace at which he has started the new season they surely a number of other clubs will crowd at his door come May next year.
