Reports emerged earlier this week that Jose Mourinho is going to be sacked by his club at the end of the weekend.
But now the club have come out to claim that such rumours are ‘nonsense’.
After news of Mourinho’s sacking broke in the media, former Manchester United player Gary Neville was the first to come out and criticize the club due to which Man United had to come out and clear the air.
All said and done, there is still a high possibility that Jose Mourinho might not remain at the helm for very long especially if his team cannot churn out performances.
The Old Trafford outfit were said to be looking at Zinedine Zidane as a replacement to Mourinho but the former Real Madrid boss has reportedly refused to take up the job.
And now the club are falling back to their secondary options and Mauricio Pochettino’s name ranks pretty high on that list.
Apart from Pochettino, former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s name has also been doing the rounds but football pundit Paul Merson has not added a really wild card amongst the mix.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson has made a suggestion that Manchester United could look at the option of bringing Arsene Wenger on board – a manager who has been without a job since he left Arsenal at the end of the previous season.
Merson admitted that the idea might sound bizarre but Arsene Wenger is perhaps the most suited to bring United out of the mess that they are currently in.
Paul Merson said: “Seriously, that’s not the worst idea in the world. You’ve got to look at what Wenger did.
“You don’t have to go out and buy £70m to £80m players with some of the gems he’s got over time. It’s not a bad shout. Sometimes you just need a fresh start.”
The former Gunners boss was slated to take charge of PSG this season but that job went to Thomas Tuchel eventually.
Arsene Wenger has made it clear he may come back to coaching in England and perhaps Manchester United could become his next pet project.
