Once taunted as the noisy neighbours, Manchester City have come a long way and right now the Pep Guardiola managed side is one of the best teams in European football.

This clubbed with the poor performances of Manchester United have led many to believe that City are right now the biggest team in Manchester.

But as the Red Devils get ready to take on Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend, some fans are claiming that this once high profile clash has lost its sheen due to the emergence of the Citizens.

Former Man United midfielder Paul Scholes though thinks otherwise.

The recently appointed Oldham manager has claimed that the clash against Liverpool is still the crown jewel as far as rivalries go for Manchester United.

“I think it’s[Man United vs Liverpool] the biggest rivalry in English football,” Scholes said.

“In a few years, if Man City carry on the way they are going, that [rivalry] might overtake it a little bit.

“You’d expect two Manchester teams to have the biggest rivalry, but I don’t think it is, I think it’s the Liverpool-Man Utd thing, especially with Liverpool trying to get to United’s record of league titles.

“We don’t want them to do that.

“United vs Liverpool is a big, big game and Liverpool are going really well, so are United. They had a bit of a disappointment against PSG, but hopefully, they can redeem themselves…

“And hopefully they’ll beat Liverpool on Sunday.”

Liverpool will travel to Old Trafford next weekend and if Solskjaer’s men can manage to pick up a win then it will mean that Manchester City might be able to open up a game at the top of the league table(all thanks to their neighbours).
