Man United had seen a change of fortune ever since Solskjaer was appointed as the caretaker manager at the club after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

The Norwegian chose to bring in a number of old faces back into his managerial unit and one such face was that of Mike Phelan.

Mike Phelan had not only played for Manchester United during the early years of Ferguson’s reign but he has also worked with the great Scott in his managerial team for more than a decade.

And now if reports are to be believed the Solskjaer wants Mike Phelan to become the next technical director at Manchester United.

The 56-year-old was serving as a sporting director at Australian club Central Coast Mariners before he left it a couple of months back in order to join Ole’s team.

While Solskjaer does want Mike Phelan to take up the job as the new technical director at United but it is still unsure if the former assistant manager to Sir Alex will remain at the club after the end of the season.

Reports have also claimed that Ed Woodward recently met with Rio Ferdinand for the role of the technical director and if rumours are to be believed then he has been very impressed with the ideas of the former Man United defender.

It still remains to be seen whether Rio Ferdinand is handed the job at the club but we believe that Mike Phelan should be the number one choice in case he chooses to stay at the club.

Ole obviously backs his assistant coach to become the next technical director which is something that the management at Old Trafford will most certainly have to take into consideration.

Phelan also has the advantage of knowing the backroom system very thoroughly which will be of immense help to rebuild the Manchester United team during the upcoming transfer windows.

But the first thing that the Man United manager will have to do before all this is to sell off all the unnecessary players in order to make room for the new arrivals.
