England will play three World Cup qualifier matches during the international break and chances are that Patrick Bamford could see a lot of game time.

The Leeds United forward has been called up to the national team squad and since Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a major doubt with an injury, Bamford is likely to move up the pecking order.

The latest reports are claiming that DCL is in line to miss national duty since he currently has a toe injury and with Harry Kane still not properly match-fit, Patrick Bamford could start up front for England against Hungary.

The report claims: “Calvert-Lewin, who has scored three goals in Everton’s opening three Premier League matches of the season, has been playing through the pain barrier with a toe injury.

“Both players(DCL & Mings) will be assessed before deciding if they can play a part for England.”

Patrick Bamford or Harry Kane: Who will start in Hungary vs England?

Harry Kane is without a doubt the obvious choice for Gareth Southgate but the forward had an extended holiday after the Euros and this weekend was the first time he played the full 90 minutes for Spurs.

Kane has played only 109 minutes across two matches(with one start) so he might not be 100% ready to start against Hungary.

Patrick Bamford, on the other hand, has featured in all three league matches for Leeds United this season, scoring one and assisting one goal with an xG of 1.5.

The 27-year-old is much more up to speed right now which is why we have a feeling Gareth Southgate is going to name him in the starting line up, at least for the Hungary vs England game.

After Thursday’s game, England take on Andorra and then Poland and these are the matches when Harry Kane is likely to return to the first XI.
