Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard recently signed Connor Goldson from Brighton and Hove Albion and the club’s hierarchy thinks that the player is going to succeed at Ibrox.

Goldson played a pivotal role for Brighton during the club’s Championship days but ever since the team secured a promotion to the Premier League the centre-back’s role has diminished to a large extent.

During the 2017-18 season, Goldson managed to play just 3 games in the Premier League for Brighton and he was eventually sold to Rangers FC on the 13th of June 2018.

The centre-back has signed a four-year deal at Ibrox but many people have their doubts regarding Steven Gerrard sixth signing of the summer.

Now through the club’s director of football Mark Allen has backed his manager’s decision to sign Connor Goldson claiming that the 25-year-old has all the qualities of becoming a star.

Allen told the Scottish Sun“I think if you look at Connor he is a Premier League centre-back who found himself unluckily out of favour at Brighton with the two centre-backs there.

“Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy have had outstanding seasons so it was very difficult for Connor to break through.

“But all the attributes that we are looking for in terms of leadership, physical stature, strength are there. He is quite quick, he moves with the ball well.

“All of those tick the box in terms of the type of footballer we want to bring to the football club. He was keen to come so it was just a case of negotiation and away we went.”

Rangers struggled defensively during the past season and Steven Gerrard’s first priority was to bring in a new centre-back. And Connor Goldson will undoubtedly bring in a lot of stability and experience into the Gers backline.

The Rangers FC manager has claimed Connor Goldson has all the qualities of a great leader hinting to the fact that the 25-year-old can very well become the new captain at the club.
