Rangers FC have made a very mixed start to the new season and the Light Blues are finding it difficult to gather points away from home.

Steven Gerrard has managed to turn Ibrox into a fortress but they are yet to win a game away from home in the league.

And many pundits believe that dropping so many unnecessary points could mean that the Gers might not be able to challenge Celtic for the Premiership.

Rangers lost their weekend fixture 1-0 to Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium but they are back again at home in midweek as they take on Rapid Wien in the Europa League.

The Light Blues salvaged a hard-earned draw against Villarreal during the first matchday but the manager will want to pick up all three points against Rapid Wien on Thursday.

And speaking about winning games away from home, Steven Gerrard has laid out what his players should exactly do in order to become competitive for the rest of the season.

“I mentioned (the pressure of playing the day after their rivals) before the game,” he said.

“Playing on Sunday, whether that be through Europe or whether it be for TV reasons, can be an advantage if results go your way like they did last week (with Celtic’s defeat at Kilmarnock). We got a lift from it.

“I said to the players before the game that we need to show how good we are and how serious we are. All the teams around us and above us won, so with that comes with a bit of pressure and we haven’t responded to that.

“It is still early on in the season so we can recover from a result like this like we recovered from the Old Firm loss. But this can’t keep happening.

“When we come and play teams like Livingston we have to try and take maximum points otherwise we won’t be in the title race.”

Rangers are constantly fighting with Celtic in the domestic league but the reality is that other teams like Hearts and Livingston have also been churning out good performances week-in-week-out.

But the Europa League might be the area where the Gers can actually show what their team is capable of given they have been pitched in a fairly simple group as compared to their Glasgow rivals Celtic.

The match against Rapid Wein will be a great chance for Rangers to get back their confidence.

Rapid Wien are clearly struggling in their domestic league as the Austrian outfit have managed to pick up just nine points out of their nine games in the Austrian Bundesliga.
