Celtic FC are looking to hold onto goalkeeper Fraser Forster who is currently on loan from Premier League club Southampton FC – as per reports.

Recently, Charlie Nicholas urged the Bhoys to offer Froster a permanent deal at the club claiming that the 32-year-old is not only a key player at the club but also needs no further polishing.

Nicholas said, as per GMS: “I’d offload Olivier Ntcham as I just don’t see him staying because he isn’t getting enough game time.

“Scott Brown is a leader, Callum McGregor has become one, Ryan Christie is a big player and Neil Lennon will try to keep Odsonne Edouard but Fraser Forster needs to be tied down first. The Hoops hierarchy have to show the desire to bring the player in the long term because that approach will play a big part in a deal like this.

“Forster is a proven talent, though, and it wouldn’t be a gamble to bring him in the long term even if Celtic have to push out the boat to get him.”

And now, Celtic have received a major boost in this transfer since Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has just signed a new four-year contract at the club.

The Austrian took charge of the Saints in 2018 and this new contract means he will remain at the club until the summer of 2024.

It was under Hasenhuttl that 32-year-old Fraser Forster had fallen down the pecking order at Southampton FC and was eventually sent out on loan to Scotland last summer.

And now that the manager has committed his future to the club, Forster is not expected to return back to the St Mary’s next season.

Celtic should not have any issues in keeping the shot-stopper at Park Head on a permanent basis but what remains to be seen is what exactly Southampton FC will demand in return – a transfer fee or Olivier Ntcham?
