Now though the England manager has come out in support of Raheem Sterling by saying:
“I have great belief in him,
“For the last five or six games he has played in, with the change of system, he has been key with his movement, his ability to run at teams from deep, his interchanging of positions with other forwards,
“At times I have wondered why there has been so much focus on his position in the team and not others.
“But he is tough and resilient and a player who will be immensely looking forward to this occasion.”
England won their first two games of the Group Stages but now slumped to a defeat against Belgium in their final group game.
But Gareth Southgate chose to field a much weaker side against the Red Devils given the fact that his had already secured qualification to the knockout stages.
