Nigeria are set to play their first game of the World Cup on Saturday against Croatia and the Super Eagles will be hoping that they can captivate the fans with their football.

In the buildup to the tournament, the African nation has been in the limelight for a couple of things and none of them, unfortunately, were related to the football they played.

First Nigeria caught the attention of the footballing world after they unveiled their new kit for the World Cup.

The sleek and stylish kit was so loved by the fans that it went out of stock both online and offline within minutes of it being put up on sale.

Then came the time when the Super Eagles had to jet set their way to Russia.

While every other team chose to be dressed in suits and blazers when they reached Russia, Nigeria on the other hand clearly had other plans.

The squad chose to be dressed in suave white and green dresses which once again put them in the headlines.

And now just hours before they are scheduled to take the field against Croatia, the Russia authorities have banned the Nigerian fans from bringing live chickens with them into the stadium.

Yes, you read that right.

While most of you are frowning at the prospect of taking chickens into a football game it’s quite normal for Nigerian fans.

The Super Eagles supporters tend to carry live chickens with them considering it as a lucky charm.

But there have now been barred from it during the Croatia game.

Andrei Ermak, Russia’s minister of culture in Kaliningrad, told Russia’s Interfax said: “Fans from Nigeria asked if it’s possible to go to the stadium with a chicken. We told them that it is not possible.”

The good news for the Super Eagles fans is that they will not be stopped from carrying live chickens into every game and the authorities have made it clear that the Nigerian fans will be duly advised on the areas, games and stadiums they will be allowed to take chickens to.
