Chelsea went down to Liverpool during Matchweek 2 of the new Premier League season but it seems like new-boy Timo Werner has come out with flying colours.

Timo Werner was a key figure in Chelsea’s otherwise toothless attack on Sunday and manager Frank Lampard has not shyed away from praising the German interntional despite him failing to find the back of the net.

‘Yeah, I’m very pleased with his start,’ Lampard said after Chelsea’s defeat, via Metro.

‘We brought him to the club for the attributes that we’re seeing. We’re seeing speed, we’re seeing individual moments, we will see goals from him, I know that.

‘I thought with the second half and how difficult it would have been for him and Mason [Mount], instead he comes up with a moment that could get us back into the game.

‘I’m delighted with him. And we’ll see a lot more. And also his manner, his way, his desire to work for the team, his behaviour in the dressing room, I’m delighted with Timo.’

Timo Werner looked full of energy all throughout the 90 minutes and even after the Blues went down to 10 men, the former Leipzig man was eager to take on the Liverpool defenders at every given chance.

During the first half, the forward used his pace to get behind the Liverpool backline on a couple of occassions and we feel that if Christensen had not been sent off then Timo Werner might very well have dictated the pace of the match.
