Rangers have signed Jermain Defoe but this signing has brought in a mixed response.

While many feel the 36-year-old is the perfect man to help Rangers get those crucial goals for the second half of the season but a few think Jermain Defoe will have a negative impact.

And one of the main reasons behind these negative comments is the fact that the striker has seen very little game time this season for the Cherries.

Jermain Defoe had played in just four Premier League games this season for a total of 21 minutes and many fans and pundits are arguing that the striker is rusty.

But former teammate Danny Murphy has revealed why Jermain Defoe will succeed at Rangers despite being a benchwarmer for Eddie Howe’s side.

“Dave has been at Rangers before – he’s very well-liked, a super footballer,” Danny Murphy told talkSPORT(as reported).

“People might say they’re past their sell-by date – the fact they’ve not played much football in the last year or two probably means they’re in good nick.

“When you go anywhere in the middle of the season, your rhythm can take a while to come back.

“But Jermain Defoe has always been a goalscorer, always been someone you can give the ball around the 18-yard box, he’ll manoeuvre himself, two-footed, he’ll shoot from anywhere. Super sharp.

“I played with him in a charity game a year or so back, and he was electric.”

Another reason why Jermain Defoe could be bad news for Rangers is that if the Englishman can succeed at the club then it will most certainly be goodbye, Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos is already being eyed by a number of European clubs and if he cannot get proper game time this season then the Colombian will surely be looking for greener pastures during the summer.
