Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has been making waves with his performances over the past year and he had another stellar outing, this time for Scotland against England.

The midfielder was named in the starting line-up by Steve Clarke and in that 0-0 draw, Billy Gilmour was rightfully named the star of the match. The youngster has played a few games for Chelsea during the 2020-21 season and after Friday’s game, everyone is of the opinion that he should get much more game time next season.

With the likes of Kante and Jorginho at his disposal, we don’t think Thomas Tuchel will be too keen to push Gilmour up the pecking order which is why some rumours claim the Chelsea manager could send him out on loan before the new season kicks off.

Almost every Premier League side would love to take the 20-year-old on board but according to former England No 1 Paul Robinson, Billy Gilmour should return to Rangers and play under Steven Gerrard.

He told Football Insider: “Rangers are a more attractive proposition than a mid-table Premier League side at the moment.

“They are playing in the Champions League and will be competing for every domestic honour next year.

“To learn under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister, as a midfielder, would be invaluable. What those two have done at Rangers over the past two years has been amazing. What better place to be? He would enjoy his football up there, Rangers would be amazing.

“He would get a lot of the ball and they would be winning most weeks.

“If he goes on loan to a mid-table Premier League side he would not be playing in Europe every week. I think Rangers would be the ideal move to further his progression.”

There’s no official news that Chelsea want to send Billy Gilmour out on loan but that will be the most sensible thing to do for the London outfit.

The midfielder started his youth career at Rangers FC before joining Chelsea in 2017 but despite Robinson’s enthusiasm, we don’t think Gilmour will want to return to Scotland when he can have the chance to play in the Premier League – a league which is far more competitive than the SPFL.

During the 2020-21 season, Billy Gilmour played in 12 senior games for Chelsea but going by his matured performance against England, the midfielder is surely going to demand more game time next season.
