Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott has withdrawn from the England U21 squad with an injury but according to The Athletic, the injury is not serious.

The Anfield outfit have confirmed that the 18-year-old has picked up an injury and this has automatically put him in doubt for their next Premier League game against Leeds United.

The club released an official statement: “Harvey Elliott has withdrawn from the England U21 squad.

“The Liverpool attacker has returned to the club as a result of an injury that will prevent him from featuring in the Young Lions’ U21 European Championship qualifier against Kosovo on Tuesday night.”

Will Harvey Elliott play against Leeds United?

The Athletic are claiming that the withdrawal was only a precaution and he should be available for selection this coming weekend.

The report claims: “The 18-year-old attacking midfielder picked up a minor muscle injury in the recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield and wasn’t deemed fit enough to feature for Lee Carsley’s side against Kosovo in the Euros qualifier at MK Dons on Tuesday night.

“The Athletic understands that it’s only a precautionary measure and the hope is that he will recover in time to feature against Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.

“He will be assessed and monitored by the club’s medical staff in the coming days.”

During the 2021/22 season, Harvey Elliott has started in two out of the three league matches and he’s made a really positive impact with his performances.

And if he is 100% fit then there’s a big chance he will play against Leeds United on Sunday.

Just three days after the Elland Road encounter, Liverpool will take on AC Milan in the Champions League and so Jurgen Klopp will want to rest a few of his regular first-team players during the weekend.

Harvey Elliott can play on either wing but on Sunday he could get the nod ahead of Sadio Mane and feature down the left-hand side.
