Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

Chelsea have agreed on a principle deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig despite the forward being favourite to sign for fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Matt Law wrote for the Telegraph: “Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea, who are on the verge of tying up a deal to sign the forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

“As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, Chelsea have moved to sign Werner after Liverpool did not meet his release clause which is reported to be worth around £53 million.

“Werner has now agreed to join Chelsea on a contract worth almost £200,000-a-week and the club are now expected to agree a deal with Leipzig.”

But now, pundit Ray Parlour has warned Frank Lampard not to breathe easy since Manchester United could try and hijack the transfer in the coming few days.

‘I’m amazed that Man United are not in for Werner,’ the former England midfielder said on talkSPORT, via Metro.

‘They’ve got money and probably do need another striker; [Marcus] Rashford can play wide if you need him to, off the flank.

‘I’m sure Manchester United might make a last-minute pop for Werner as well. I think the agent is trying to work the market now; that is how they work, putting it out there that the deal is nearly done and alerting other clubs so they have to pull their finger out.

‘” If we really want this player then we’ve got to up the money and up the wages”, and suddenly it could be a different factor for Chelsea.’

Will Man United try and sign Timo Werner?

If Chelsea do see this through then Timo Werner will be a bargain buy for Frank Lampard and not only Parlour but a number of other pundits think Man United might launch an attack pretty soon.

While this is a possibility but we do not think Solskjaer will be too eager to try and make a bid for Werner especially when his release clause expires in the middle of June.

Firstly, the Premier League season is about to restart so the manager will want his full focus to be there and most importantly, the Old Trafford outfit right now are prioritizing the signings of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho.

And before these two deals are wrapped up, we don’t think Man United will want to shift their focus.

Liverpool though have nothing to do at this point in time which is why they could be the one who could try and sign Timo Werner. The 24-year-old is already fond of the club as well as their manager so if Klopp can infect his thoughts there’s every chance Werner will snub Chelsea and pack his bags for Merseyside.
