Romelu Lukaku was supposed to be the next big thing for Chelsea this season but the Belgian has turned out to be a major flop at the club.

Chelsea paid a massive sum to bring Lukaku back to the club but in 17 Premier League games, the forward has netted only five goals. Against Crystal Palace in the weekend, he had just seven touches across the entire match and this was easily one of the poorest performances he’s ever put out.

He had a rating of just 6.5 out of 10 and with a key Champions League game coming up, it looks like his manager is out of ideas in terms of how to revive his form as well as his confidence.

When asked about Lukaku’s recent form, Tuchel said: “What can I do? I don’t know.

“We have to deal with it. The data is out there and the data speaks a certain language. He was not involved in our game, it’s sometimes like this.

“It’s, of course, not what we want or Romelu wants, but it’s not the time to laugh about him and makes jokes about him.”

Will Romelu Lukaku play against Lille on Tuesday?

Based on pure form, Romelu Lukaku should not even get a start, especially in a Champions League game but the problem is that his backup is Timo Werner and he too has been equally bad.

Werner should have been the first-choice forward for Chelsea but the German was so bad that Tuchel had to go out and sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter.

The Belgian has played 1180 minutes in the Premier League this season and has an xG of 4.5 but in reality, he has scored only five goals.

Mason Mount is out with an injury meaning Kai Havertz cannot play up front for the time being so it’s either Romelu Lukaku or Timo Werner who will lead the line against Lille.

Lille are not a very competitive side and they have won just two out of their previous five games. In these five matches, the French side have conceded eight goals so one would back a player like Lukaku to find the back of the net on Tuesday night.

We think Tuchel has no other option but to select Romelu Lukaku and it’s high time that the former Inter man starts scoring goals. There are already rumours that Chelsea are planning to replace him in the summer so if the Belgian international cannot pull up his socks fast enough then surely it will be curtains for his Chelsea career.
