Liverpool welcome Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week and going into Wednesday’s game, midfielders Thiago and Fabinho will be available for selection.

Fabinho was out with a knee injury while the Spaniard was recovering from a calf injury. And just before this crunch match, the duo has returned to full impact training, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The manager said in his pre-match press conference: “Fabinho and Thiago trained completely normally and are in contention, which is good obviously. It’s very helpful and so we will see.

“Injuries [in this] period of the season are completely normal, as long as they are not too harsh we have to accept that. The players will be back, hopefully soon, and then they are in contention again as well.

“But for tomorrow only the fit players, obviously.”

Will Thiago and Fabinho start for Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid?

Thiago has been out for a long time and his last game for the club was in the 3-0 win against Crystal Palace back in September. Fabinho’s last match was the 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid about a fortnight ago.

The return of these two players will be a big boost for the Liverpool manager since Naby Keita has been ruled out with a hamstring injury while James Milner and Harvey Elliot are already on the sidelines.

But despite them rejoining training, we don’t think both of them will start on Wednesday. Thiago has been out for a really long time so there’s no way Jurgen Klopp will throw him into such a big match.

Fabinho though could be in line to start but even then, the Brazilian might not be fit enough to play the full match.

We think Fabinho will reprise his role in defensive midfield with Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones playing as the two advanced players. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also be pushing for a start.
