Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding picked up an injury earlier this month and the player will be out for a really long time.
Holding has an ACL injury which rules him out for six to nine months.
This means the defender will not be able to play any part for the rest of the season and this has really thrown a spanner to Unai Emery’s long-term plans.
With Rob Holding out, reports suggest that the Gunners will try and sign a new centre-back during the January transfer window.
‘If we can take one player to help us at centre-back, I think it’s a good option,’ Emery had confirmed earlier this month.
‘But a transfer is not easy.’
And one of their top targets has just landed in London.
Real Valladolid centre-back Fernando Calero seems to be in England capital according to his social media activities.
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Calero for some time now and with Rob Holding now out for the rest of the season, Unai Emery looks set to make a move for him.
Valladolid have been one of the better defensive teams in the La Liga this season and Fernando Calero is one of the main reasons why.
The defender made his debut only a year ago but this season the 23-year-old has already made himself a key figure in the first team – making 17 appearances in the La Liga.
Unai Emery will not have too much money to spend during the January transfer window and the fact that Fernando Calero is available for only £10m makes him an ideal candidate for Arsenal.
But this low price tag means clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla are also interested in signing up the centre-back.
