Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata playing for Chelsea

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri seems to have wrapped up his first signing of the new year and it is Alvaro Morata who will be heading out.

Morata has turned out to be a big flop ever since he moved to Stamford Bridge and even under the ultra-attacking tactics of Sarri, the striker has failed to flourish.

The Spaniard has constantly been in and out of the first XI and it seems that the manager has finally had enough.

Last week it was reported that Sarri was planning to bring in Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan in a swap deal for Alvaro Morata.

When the Chelsea boss was asked about this rumours he chose to be very politically correct but now it seems that the deal is on the verge of going through.

Gonzalo Higuain has previously played under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli meaning the forward should not have any difficulty in adjusting under the Chelsea boss.

The AC Milan man has so far played in 18 games for the Italian club and has managed to net 7 goals and provide 3 assists.

As per the report, Higuain will move to Stamford Bridge during the early weeks of January on a six-month loan spell until the end of the season.

And Alvaro Morata will move the other way to AC Milan on an 18-month loan spell.

It is still unclear whether either one of these loan contracts will have a buy-clause but given that this is a mid-season deal, Chelsea have practically shown Alvaro Morata the exit door.

Alvaro Morata was supposed to be the first choice striker this season while Olivier Giroud was supposed to be the backup.

But the performance from both these players has been so average that at times the Chelsea manager has chosen to play Eden Hazard as a false nine instead of using either Giroud or Alvaro Morata.
