According to a report in MediaFootMarseille, Lyon are ready to accept around €40 million for the sale of their midfielder Lucas Paqueta who’s on the radar of clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle.
The Brazilian midfielder has caught the attention of several major European sides after scoring nine and assisting six goals in 35 Ligue 1 matches last season and for the longest time, Tottenham Hotspur were the favourites to sign him.
Over the previous few days, these rumours have died down and in turn, Arsenal have emerged as one of the frontrunners in this transfer race.
The Gunners want a new central midfielder this summer and so far they have been linked with various players like Youri Tielemans and Arthur. However, as per some rumours, Lucas Paqueta sits pretty high on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist and now his new price tag will intrigue Arsenal even more.

Will Arsenal have a straightforward chance of signing Paqueta?
€40 million is very much within Arsenal’s reach and since Spurs are not showing any inclination towards signing the midfielder, Paqueta could be a very easy and viable target for the Gunners.
Having said that, Newcastle United have just registered an interest in the Lyon midfielder and the newly cash-rich club can spoil Arsenal’s party.
The Magpies can very easily outbid Arsenal in this transfer race and as per the latest reports, they are surely going to launch a bid for Lucas Paqueta.
We doubt if the 24-year-old is going to choose a move to St James Park over Arsenal but Eddie Howe’s team can certainly make life difficult for their league rivals.
Also, we will have to wait and see if Mikel Arteta does make a move for Lucas Paqueta because, for this very same price bracket, the Gunners will be able to sign Youri Tielemans – a player who’s tried and tested in the English league.
Manchester United are also interested in signing the Leicester midfielder but the player wants to join Arsenal over any other club so it will make things a lot easier for the Gunners.
