Arsenal have stepped up their interest in signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca but PSG are seemingly to be one step ahead.

The Premier League side have already seen a bid rejected for the 23-year-old but the Italian club’s CEO Giovanni Carnevali has hinted that the Gunners have not given up their pursuit.

‘There’s nothing concrete yet for Scamacca, just some contacts with some clubs’, he told Sky Sports(as quoted by Metro).

‘Of course, after playing with the National team the interest is now growing’.

The Gunners’ first bid was in the region of £35 million but it was rejected due to two major reasons. Firstly, this amount fell short of what Sassuolo are demanding and secondly, the striker is not interested in moving out of Italy right now.

It is already a tough ask signing Gianluca Scamacca but now with PSG’s move, Mikel Arteta and Edu will be having sleepless nights.

The Ligue 1 have already gotten in touch with the player’s representatives in the hopes of convincing him to move to France and many believe a chance to play alongside Kylian Mbappe and Messi might be too tempting to resist.

Arsenal have other centre-forward targets on their radar but even there they are facing some stiff competition. They were believed to be the favourites to sign Gabriel Jesus but now all of a sudden Chelsea and Real Madrid have shown an inquisitiveness in him.

Gianluca Scamacca has been with Sassuolo since 2017 but the youngster has come off age this past season, scoring 16 goals in 38 league appearances for the club.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2026 so the Italians are in no hurry to offload him and at the same time, they can quote some crazy figures.

Arsenal won’t be able to shell out too much because they don’t have Champions League football to offer but PSG are one of the biggest spenders in the world. If the Ligue 1 side can convince Gianluca Scamacca for a move to Paris then Arsenal won’t even be able to come close.
