Joe Hart is going to say goodbye to Celtic at the end of this season and according to a report by Talksport, the Scottish side is looking at Asmir Begovic as one of the replacements.
Joe Hart has been a great servant to Celtic having joined them during the 2021/22 season and since then, the keeper has played in close to 150 games for the Bhoys.
Back in February, the former England keeper had announced that he is going to hang up his gloves in the summer which is why Celtic are currently out in the market looking for a new No 1.
A few names have been linked with the SPFL side but Asmir Begovic fits Celtic’s brief perfectly because he is set to be a free agent at the end of this campaign. He joined Championship side QPR last summer on a one-year deal and the former Chelsea keeper might have to look for a new team in the coming months.
QPR however have not stopped negotiations with the 36-year-old and they still might offer him a new contract. And as per rumours, Asmir Begovic is also ready to remain at the club, if an offer for an extension is tabled before him.
Apart from Asmir Begovic, Celtic FC are also being linked with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher who is going to be a better signing on any given day.
The 25-year-old has been struggling for game time and Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for him. Having said that, it’s very hard to see Celtic FC paying €25-30 million for the Irish keeper.
Apart from Celtic, Nottingham Forest are also keen to sign Kelleher and the keeper will prefer staying in England over a move to the SPFL. If Forest can avoid relegation and remain in the Premier League then there’s no way the Bhoys will be able to move above them in the pecking order.
At this point, Asmir Begovic seems a very good choice as Joe Hart’s replacement but Celtic will have to wait patiently to see what QPR do with him. If the Championship side are offering him another one-year deal then he will happily put pen on paper but if they back off then Celtic have a very decent chance of landing him.
