Now that the European Championship is done and dusted, Premier League side Arsenal are wasting no time in trying to get their hands on Brighton defender Ben White, as per The Sun.

The report claims: “ARSENAL are reportedly set to step up their pursuit of Brighton centre-back Ben White following the conclusion of the European Championship.

“The 23-year-old, who was part of England’s 2020 squad, has been the subject of two failed bids from the Gunners with the Seagulls seeking a £50million fee.

“Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate wanted his squad to concentrate on their club futures until after the tournament, and Arsenal will now press ahead with their move to sign the defender.”

Should Arsenal spend so much on Ben White?

Ben White was called up to the England squad for the Euros which is why the Gunners had halted their pursuit for the centre-back over the past month.

But now that the tournament is over, Mikel Arteta has asked his board to seal the deal for the 23-year-old.

Now, Brighton are asking for around £50 million for the defender since he has three more years left on his current deal with the club. But we have a feeling that Arsenal might be making another major transfer blunder.

Over the past few years, Arsenal have spent useless money on a lot of unwanted players and if they are ready to pay £50m for Ben White then there’s a big chance all that money could go down the drain.

Yes, the 23-year-old is a top talent but there’s no way Arsenal should agree to pay so much for someone who has played only one season in the top flight and has no European experience.

There’s no doubt Arsenal need to bring in a new centre-back before the new season begins but we think Brighton are just playing around with Arsenal’s urgency and refusing to lower their demands for Ben White.

White has come up through the ranks at Brighton and last season he featured in 36 Premier League games. According to TransferMarkt, he is valued at only £25.20m.
