Bernardo Silva wanted by Barcelona

Arsenal have been eyeing a move for James Maddison but it’s taking a lot of effort for them to convince Leicester City to sell their attacking midfielder. And maybe this is why The Mirror are claiming that should the Gunners fail to sign Maddison, they will try and bring Bernardo Silva on board.

The report claims: “Arsenal are exploring a shock move for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as boss Mikel Arteta looks to add more creativity to his side.

“Bernardo had been keen on a move to Spain, with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona both looking at signing him this summer.

“But the financial situations at the La Liga clubs means they could struggle to afford him and that has opened the door to Arsenal.”

Bernardo Silva likely to leave Man City & join Arsenal?

Bernardo Silva was one of the key players in the Manchester City squad a few seasons ago but last campaign, he had a pretty average outing.

And now that Jack Grealish has arrived at the shores, Pep Guardiola will not hesitate to sell the 26-year-old playmaker, for the right price of course.

Bernardo Silva is valued at £63 million which is a lot higher than James Maddison but since City are likely to part ways with him, the club could accept a cut-price deal for the Portuguese international.

James Maddison still remains the first-priority target for Arsenal but the talks between the two clubs have not advanced in the last few weeks. And if things move at such a pace then it won’t take much for the Gunners to swiftly shift their focus to Bernardo Silva.

Silva’s current deal expires in 2025 and last season he scored only two goals and provided six assists in 26 Premier League games.

He might have been a hit and miss last campaign but talent-wise, Bernardo Silva still remains one of the best playmakers in England and if he joins Arsenal then the Gunners can make a genuine push for a top-four spot.
