Arsenal played their first game of the Europa League group stages this Thursday against Vorskla and a number of the so-called bench warmers got to play their very first game of the new season under Unai Emery.

Players like Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding got some much-needed game time under their belt but one player who was happy to make his debut for the Gunners was goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Bernd Leno signed Bayer Leverkusen this summer for £22.5 million on a five-year contract and everyone was sure the German was going to replace Petr Cech infront of goal this season.

But surprisingly Unai Emery has chosen to keep his faith on Petr Cech forcing Bernd Leno to warm the benches.

And making his debut this midweek, Leno was naturally relieved and chose to vent out his frustration for not making regular appearances for Arsenal.

“I came to the club to play every game,” Leno told the Evening Standard.

“But I think to move to a bigger club, another country, it needs maybe a little bit of time. It is a bit frustrating but I keep calm and work very hard to improve.

“The coach always makes the starting XI because of the performance. I think it could change, not every week, but he will change a lot.

“He didn’t say the league is Petr’s competition and the Europa League is mine. I will work every day hard to play more games.

“I came for the Premier League. I think it is the best. The Bundesliga is good but the Premier League is better, so I will look forward to playing any time in the Premier League.”

Arsenal take on Everton in the Premier League this Sunday and Petr Cech will surely take back his No 1 spot forcing Bernd Leno to watch from the bench once again.
