Premier League side Arsenal are reportedly keen to sign midfielder Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis during the summer transfer window.

Mundo Deportivo claim: “Arsenal intends to push hard this coming summer for the signing of Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez, who has become a bastion of Real Betis midfield since his arrival at the Verdiblanco club in January 2020, from America de México.

The market value of Guido Rodríguez has multiplied since his arrival at Real Betis, especially due to the excellent performance he is offering this season at the hands of Manuel Pellegrini,”

“Guido Rodríguez, who turns 27 in April, has a contract with Real Betis until June 2024 and a termination clause that exceeds 80 million euros and Arsenal has set his sights on him after not meeting expectations with the signing of Thomas Partey -turns 28 years in June-, for which last September he paid the 50 million euros of his termination clause to Atlético de Madrid.”

Can Arsenal afford to sign Guido Rodriguez?

The 26-year-old joined Betis in January of 2020 for a meagre fee of £2.70 million but in a short span of time, his price tag has skyrocketed. And we are not sure how Arsenal will be able to pay the release clause which stands at a staggering €80 million.

The Gunners will not have an extravagant transfer budget in the summer and if they miss out on Champions League football then Arteta’s finances will dry up even further.

And still, if the manager is keen to sign someone like Guido Rodriguez then he will have to rely on player sales – a few of them need to go out in order to make this transfer a reality.

Guido Rodriguez can undoubtedly be the perfect long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka but Arsenal have a lot of hurdles to cross before they can even think of making a formal enquiry about the Argentine midfielder.
