Martin Odegaard came up with a five-star performance for Arsenal vs West Ham United in the Premier League a few days ago and now he has hinted that he might not return to Real Madrid in the summer.

Odegaard arrived at Arsenal in January on a short-term loan deal and has admitted that his future is still up in the air. But eventually, he will like to play for a club where he is a consistent figure in the starting line-up.

“I haven’t thought about what’ll happen in summer,” he told VG, as quoted by TEAMtalk. “My deal with Arsenal is until the end of season. We’ll see what happens this summer.”

“I’ve said things before that I still stand for: Stability and development are key words.”

Many pundits have urged Mikel Arteta to make the loan deal permanent and now Odegaard’s recent comments should fuel this move, sooner or later.

The playmaker’s performances have been improving with each passing week and after his stellar show vs West Ham United, there’s a big possibility that Arsenal will want to hold onto him beyond the summer.

Arsenal might not have a very big transfer budget for the summer window but as per the latest reports, they are willing to shell out around 40 million pounds for Martin Odegaard.

Eurosport claim: “Arsenal hope their faith in his ability will help convince the player that he should stick with them beyond this season but they are aware it might take some good negotiating to secure a permanent deal as Odegaard has a release clause of €350 million.

“The club obviously do not see that as a realistic valuation of the player and third-party sources are indicating that his genuine worth in this market is probably around £40m, plus add-ons. But the clause – common across La Liga to protect assets – will still make negotiations complicated.”

Martin Odegaard has successfully managed to make himself the first-choice attacking midfielder at Arsenal right now and if he can keep on performing at the same pace then Arteta will definitely want him on a permanent basis.

Real Madrid should not have a problem in letting him leave but the Los Blancos will want to negotiate the monetary compensation if the 22-year-old’s performance graph keeping rising in the coming months.
