Premier League

Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the EPL meaning they have now moved within one point of Manchester City and according to Jamie Carragher, the Anfield outfit have what it takes to leapfrog over City.

City were held to a draw by Palace on Monday and Liverpool perfectly capitalised on that slip by picking up three points from their game in hand. Both these sides have now played 29 games each and as per the former Liverpool defender, Jurgen Klopp’s side were never out of the title race.

He said on Sky Sports, as quoted: “It’s 50-50, because of the situation, the game is at the Etihad.

“This is the first time I’ve ever felt Liverpool can win the league at any time this season. I’ve always said City, before a ball was kicked.

“That Chelsea game, 2-2, when Liverpool after that game found themselves 11 points behind Manchester City – and Graeme [Souness] in the studio said Liverpool were still in this race – I thought it was well done.

“Man City aren’t in bad form or losing lots of games or dropping lots of points. Because these teams are so good now, just drawing a game feels like a loss,

“We are watching two of the best teams we have ever seen in the Premier League and a draw is a defeat now. A draw now feels like the end of the world because you’re just expecting these teams to just win.

“I just feel like the signing of [Luis] Diaz, not just as an individual but what he’s done to Liverpool. What Liverpool brought off the bench [against Arsenal] is much better than the year they won the Champions League [2018-19] and the year they won the league [2019-20].”

Will Liverpool overtake Manchester City on the EPL table?

Liverpool are breathing down the necks of Manchester City and we think two factors will decide if Klopp’s side win the EPL title or not.

The first aspect is the games which are left for both sides because at least on paper, Man City have the easier fixtures. City have to face teams like Burnley, Brighton, West Ham and Villa and the kind of form they are in, we don’t see Pep Guardiola’s side dropping points in any of these matches.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have relatively tougher games as they still have to host Tottenham and Manchester United. The Anfield outfit will obviously go into these matches as the favourites but both these teams have the potential to inflict a setback.

The other deciding factor will be the Man City vs Liverpool tie that’s scheduled for the 10th of April. This match will be the do or die for Liverpool because a loss the Etihad will more or less end their title hopes of the current EPL season.
