Frank Lampard was appointed the Chelsea manager last year and so far he’s done pretty well in his first year at top-flight management.

Right now Chelsea are fourth on the Premier League table meaning they have a really bright chance of remaining in the Champions League. And if this was not enough, their UCL hopes for this season are also alive despite teams like Liverpool and Spurs crashing out.

But according to ex-Chelsea player Glenn Hoddle, Frank Lampard can only bring back the glory days at the Bridge when he gets to sign the type of players he wants and not the other way round.

Hoddle said, as reported by Goal: “When you look at the squad you have to wonder what is going on above him in terms of recruitment. For me, Frank needs a clear transfer policy to take his team forward.

“He has been getting it right on the training pitch, on the football side, but the next big phase for him will be how the club operate in the transfer market.

“If Frank gets the players he wants, not the players someone else wants, he has an excellent chance, in two or three years’ time, of having the right squad and the right team to challenge for the Premier League title.

“Chelsea have to treat Frank exactly the way Liverpool treated Jurgen Klopp, give him the time to rebuild, give him the players he wants.

“He needs a clearly defined pathway, a clear line of communication, which I don’t think has always been the case in the past.

“If I was a Chelsea fan, I’d think their team is in the right hands, as Frank is doing an excellent job under the circumstances and the future will be bright.”

Can Frank Lampard succeed as Chelsea boss?

Man United also faced a similar problem when Sir Alex stepped down wherein managers did not get the signings they wanted and constantly had to settle for other players.

But this time around, the OT outfit seems to have rectified their mistakes with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making it very clear which type of players the management should go for. And the results are for all to see.

Chelsea too need to walk in that same direction but with even more caution primarily since they have not signed a single player in the past two transfer windows.

Frank Lampard cannot take the risk of a major overhaul this summer itself meaning he will need a couple of transfer windows in order to accumulate the squad which he wants to use for a long time.
