Watford are looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder this summer and Rangers’ Glen Kamara happens to be on their transfer radar, as per a report in the Daily Mail.

Simon Jones writes: “Watford are showing an interest in Finland international midfielder Glen Kamara. The 25-year old has been in excellent form coming off the back of a title winning season with Rangers.

“Kamara is a firm favourite with his manager Steven Gerrard but Rangers have yet to tie him down to a new contract and the former Arsenal junior has just 12 months remaining on his current deal.

“Watford are looking to add a defensive midfielder and Kamara is a player they have discussed extensively.”

Is Glen Kamara on his way to Watford?

Watford lost Etienne Capoue midway through the previous season as he went on to join Villarreal and with the Hornets back in the Premier League, their manager is eager to bring in a long-term replacement this summer.

Glen Kamara has really impressed with his performances for Rangers last season and his recent outings for Finland has also gathered a lot of plaudits.

Kamara has two more years left on his current deal(as per TransferMarkt) with the Gers which is why former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan has urged the SPFL side to offer the midfielder a new contract as soon as possible.

“We know important he was for Steven Gerrard last season,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s a player I’m sure Steven Gerrard will desperately not want to lose. I know that contract is there but I think you’ve got to look at offering him a new contract now.

“It’s got to be right for the player because right now it looks more appealing to be at Rangers than it probably would at Watford.

“They’re in a really good place, he looks like enjoying his football. You’ve got Champions League football to look forward to. Surely he wouldn’t want to miss out on that.”

Ideally, Steven Gerrard would love to hold onto the 25-year-old for one more season but the rumours claim Watford could be ready to pay as much as £10 million for him. And since Rangers paid only £50k to sign him from Dundee, the Gers will be more than ready to cash in on him this summer if Watford are putting £10m on the table.
