Manchester United kick off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign this weekend when they face Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils finished the previous season on a sad note, losing the Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties but during the summer, Solskjaer has made sure he plugs all the holes in his squad by making some great signings.

The last time these two sides met at Old Trafford, Manchester United won that match 6-2. And to be honest, the kind of side Leeds United are, we cannot rule out a similar scoreline – in favour of either of them.

Several Man United first-team players were on an extended holiday since they were involved in international duties so the manager might not be able to name his strongest side this weekend.

Ole will not be too concerned as he does have a very good squad but this is surely a window of opportunity for Leeds to perform the perfect smash and grab on enemy territory.

Manchester United team news vs Leeds:

Dean Henderson contracted COVID during pre-season and he is likely to miss out on the opening weekend. David De Gea will reprise his role in front of goal on Saturday.

Raphael Varane has just started training on Wednesday with his new side so he will be on the bench this weekend. Victor Lindelof and Maguire are more than capable of handling things so we are not going to see the Frenchman in action.

Luke Shaw was the standout player for England during the European Championship and he reportedly played with a minor injury. But he has recovered in time and will be named in the starting line-up at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes have both returned to training and the pair should feature in midfield with Scott McTominay playing as the defensive screen.

Several reports have suggested that Solskjaer will look to play with only one defensive midfielder this season so his selection against Leeds United will be a big hint if this rumour is true or not.

Donny van de Beek will be itching for game time but we think he will have to be content with a place on the bench once again. Jesse Lingard is recovering from COVID and will miss out.

Rashford is out for several months so Dan James will most likely feature on the left flank, more so since he was one of the key players for Manchester United in that 6-2 win.

Anthony Martial will be considered up front as Edinson Cavani is yet to return from Uruguay from his extended holiday. And it will most likely be Mason Greenwood who will start on the right flank.

Summer signing Jadon Sancho has joined first-team training this week so the Leeds United game will come too early for him to make his debut. Ole could bring him on towards the end of the match if required.
