Manchester United beat Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday but the major concern for Erik ten Hag is the injury to Marcus Rashford.

The England international has been on fire this season but he has picked up what seems to be a groin injury and now there are nerves all around the club.

He provided an assist against the Toffees but after feeling his groin, he had to be taken off in the 81st minute and speaking after the game, his manager was unable to give an extent of the injury.

His manager said: “I can’t say in this moment[how bad the injury is]. You are a doctor, maybe I’m not.

“We have to wait – how bad or how good it is. So, yeah, obviously he went off with a complaint and now we have to wait, set a diagnosis and then we can see. Also, when I asked now the doctor I get the same answer.”

The Man United boss also lashed out at the weird scheduling claiming that this is one of the reasons why Marcus Rashford picked up the knock.

He said: “It was not necessary to set the schedule like we have now.

“Then I think other facts are more important than the sportive element, like protecting the players. Also, let’s say this, today we have seen a very entertaining afternoon, but players can’t do it so often when they are not fresh.

“We create a lot of chances but missing the chances is also part of it, that is a lack of freshness in the final moment, and the risk of injuries.

“I think we have to protect the players and that is also the interest from the total football because everyone wants to see great football. Then you need to have your best players on the pitch.”

Marcus Rashford has been the star man for Manchester United since Ronaldo left the club so his injury is going to shake up things.

Man United have won the Carabao Cup and they are still in the Europa League and the FA Cup so naturally, they are playing a lot more games. Next up, they head to Spain to face Sevilla in the UEL and then they take on Brighton in the FA Cup.

There’s no way Marcus Rashford will be fit for the midweek game and because it’s a groin issue, there are question marks over his availability next weekend.

Ten Hag has players who are like-for-like replacements for Marcus Rashford but his goalscoring prowess is something that cannot be replicated. In the Premier League, he’s netted 15 goals and the second top-scorer for the club is Bruno Fernandes who’s scored five goals.

Now that the England international is ruled out, Anthony Martial will likely move up the pecking order with the Frenchman playing through the middle and Jadon Sancho along with Antony as the two wide players.
