Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea have been put on high alert with reports claiming that Real Madrid could part ways with defender Raphael Varane.

Marca are claiming: “The situation regarding Sergio Ramos’ contract has taken up much of the headlines at Real Madrid in recent weeks and months, but the club are also at risk of losing another key defender.

“Raphael Varane’s current deal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu runs until June 2022 and there are suspicions running through the club’s offices that the Frenchman isn’t planning on renewing it.

“If, in the next few weeks, the World Cup winner reveals his intentions to run his contract down, Real Madrid will look to find a buyer for him in the summer to avoid losing him for free the following year. However, with a few months between now and the summer transfer window, the club’s priority is still to convince him to stay.”

Raphael Varane heading to the Premier League?

Raphael Varane is one of the most important players in the Real Madrid squad right now and the Los Blancos would be desperate to make him sign a new deal as soon as possible.

But with the Spanish side on the verge of signing David Alaba from Real Madrid, Zidane will not be too worried if Varane does not put pen on paper to the new contract.

If the 27-year-old wants to run down his contract then Real Madrid will undoubtedly want to cash in on his during the summer and this would be great news for the likes of Man United and Chelsea.

Both the Premier League clubs are on the hunt for a new central defender and in the past few days, they have been linked with players like Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate.

But if someone like Raphael Varane is available in the transfer market then the English sides could shelve every other transfer idea and try to make a move for him.

During the 2020-21 season, the 27-year-old has played in 20 La Liga games so far for Real Madrid, scoring two goals.
