Premier League sides Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to challenge Barcelona in the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, as per AS.

AS are claiming that Barcelona are not as close to agreeing on a deal as originally thought and that the Premier League could still turn out to be a suitable destination for the 26-year-old.

The report claims: “Although his move to Barcelona has already been almost taken for granted, the situation has not taken a radical turn in recent days.

“Rather the complete opposite. Saúl could land at Barcelona, although his agent has been contacting several clubs.

“Liverpool and Manchester United are possible destinations and in the event that he does not dress as a Barça player, he could end up in the Premier League.”

Is Saul Niguez coming to the Premier League?

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been heavily linked with the midfielder but with Barcelona ready to offer Antoine Griezmann in a swap deal, these rumours had cooled down over the past few days.

Now, it looks like Barcelona are still a fair bit away from securing the services of the 26-year-old which is why Manchester United and Liverpool are willing to throw the kitchen sink.

Liverpool need to bring in a world-class midfielder who can replace Gini Wijnaldum and Saul Niguez will be perfect for that job.

Manchester United at the moment, do not need a new midfielder but with Paul Pogba’s future in doubt, the Old Trafford outfit are not ready to relax.

The two English clubs are ready to put money on the table for the transfer but Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in bringing back Antoine Griezmann which is a major reason why Barcelona are still at the front of the queue.

Saul Niguez is contracted with Atletico until 2026 and as per TransferMarkt, his current valuation is £36 million.
