Liverpool have decided to put Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi up for sale primarily because they want to won’t be able to register new signings unless they start offloading players, as per The Mirror.

The report claims: “Jurgen Klopp is unable to register any non-homegrown players at Liverpool until he frees up some room in his squad – meaning new signings are currently off the table.

“As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds currently have a total of 17 non-homegrown players on their books following the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig and the return of Takumi Minamino from his loan spell at Southampton.

“This means that Liverpool have reached the maximum number permitted by both the Premier League and UEFA.

“And, as such, will not be able to name any more foreign players they may sign in their squad for the new campaign unless they start offloading individuals already at the club.”

Liverpool to sell only Xherdan Shaqiri & Origi?

Liverpool have been linked with players like Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, Jarrod Bowen and Saul Niguez but before any of them can arrive, the Anfield outfit will have to get rid of all the deadwood.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi had hardly added any value to the side last season so it makes perfect sense that the club are trying to get rid of them first.

But, there’s no indication to suggest that these two will be the only players who will step out during the ongoing transfer window.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi have been offered to several clubs, both in a straightforward deal as well as in a swap deal. But apart from them, flops such as Minamino and Naby Keita could also be shown the door.

After the return of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Liverpool are also planning to get rid of Nat Phillips and even Ben Davies has been scouted by a few English sides.

Jordan Henderson’s contract talks are also in limbo right now and if the club fail to make him sign a new deal then he too could be sold this summer.

All in all, Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri should be the first ones to leave but we doubt if Liverpool will be happy by adding only two new signings this summer.
