It’s no secret that Celtic FC are trying really hard to hold onto Cameron Carter-Vickers but in the end, the Bhoys might miss out on him.

The Spurs loanee has played in 29 Premiership games this season and he has been instrumental in Celtic’s domestic success. He is scheduled to return to London at the end of the campaign but Celtic are trying really hard to hold onto him.

Reports have claimed that the Scottish side are already in advanced talks over a permanent transfer and right now, they are the favourites to sign him but there are a few reasons why Cameron Carter-Vickers might not remain at Parkhead beyond the summer.

Southampton have eyes on the defender:

According to the Daily Echo, Premier League side Southampton are keeping tabs on the centre-back and chances are that the Saints will go after him.

It’s being claimed that Hassenhuttl feels the player will work well in his future plans and if this is true then Celtic are in big trouble.

CCV has had great success at Celtic but if a PL side wants him then he will most certainly choose to remain in England next season.

Obviously, he has some form of loyalty to the Bhoys but almost every player will jump at the opportunity to play for a top-tier English side.

Celtic to be priced out of this transfer?

Another big problem for the SPFL side is that they will find it hard to gather the necessary funds for this particular move.

Spurs have no issues in letting Cameron Carter-Vickers leave but they will want around £8 million for his sale and this could be a major stumbling block for Celtic, as per Alan Hutton.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton claimed: “Yeah, I think so.

“I watched him at the start of the season and he wasn’t exactly ripping up trees. I don’t think that was his fault, I think it was due to a lack of game time at the start of the season.

“He’s come up here and really shown his worth. He’s a man-mountain, very difficult to get past but also good on the ball.

“I think this is a more difficult one, especially when you consider the value it could. We could be talking be £7-10million here. Can Celtic afford to pay that?

“If the bigger teams in the Premier League are swooping, it’s going to be very difficult to hang on to him. Fair play to him. He’s come up here, he’s worked hard, and he’s made it happen for himself.”

The abovementioned transfer fee will not be an issue for Southampton but for Celtic, they will find it really difficult to fund it. Since the Bhoys have already made a move for CCV, they do have funds to pull off this move but once the Saints join the bandwagon then Ange Postecoglou’s side will be priced out in a flash.
