Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Ever since Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers FC last summer, the former Liverpool midfielder has had a bumpy ride in Scotland.

The Gers started out in fine form under their new boss but during the past few months, that initial panache seems to have fizzled out and Gerrard’s honeymoon period at Ibrox is well and truly over.

Currently, Rangers sit eight points behind league leader Celtic and most pundits feel that Steven Gerrard’s men just do not have the capability to deliver the Premiership title.

And looking at the way that Rangers keep dropping points there are not many people who would put money against it.

But according to Gers legend Ian Durrant, Steven Gerrard has what it takes to deliver the Premiership title at Rangers but the manager also needs the backing of the management.

“I think Steven Gerrard has the potential to win the league with Rangers, of course he has. But that comes with a level of investment and getting the right players that can play for Rangers”, Durrant said as reported by the Evening Times.

“You need players who can play in the Old Firm environment where they are expected to win.

“Steven Gerrard will find out more about his players in the next couple of months where they need to get a Cup run and try to get a result at Parkhead to keep things alive.

“He will know what he needs to bring in because in Glasgow you have to learn quick.

“I’m sure they’re already working on recruitment for next year.

“But if it does go to eight, they are going to need players that can carry badge because it’s going to be a hell of a season.”
