Chelsea seem to have joined Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Porto midfielder Luis Diaz.

Diaz has been attracting a lot of attention from big European clubs over the past year and there’s a big chance that Porto are going to lose him during the middle of the season.

Tribal Football are claiming that the midfielder rejected a move to Everton because he knew several other clubs are keen to sign him. And now Chelsea are part of that long list.

The report claims: “Porto attacker Luis Diaz is attracting major interest from across Europe.

“Having seen an offer from Everton rejected by Porto last summer, the Colombia international now knows the Toffees aren’t alone in their interest ahead of the January market.

“Porto will be reluctant sellers in midseason, though could be powerless to prevent Diaz from leaving with his contract carrying an €80m buyout clause.”

Will Chelsea be able to beat all the suitors?

The Colombian has been grabbing a lot of eyeballs with his performances and this season, he’s already netted six goals in eight league appearances for FC Porto.

Liverpool and Spurs were said to launch a bid during the January transfer window but now that Chelsea have joined the race, things are about to get a lot more complicated.

The 24-year-old has an €80 million buyout clause which all the three English clubs should be able to afford but there’s a big possibility he might not even want to move to England.

Apart from Spurs, Liverpool and now Chelsea, European giants like Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the whole situation. And at these non-English clubs, the Colombian will be able to adapt a lot easier.

Ultimately, we think will all come down to the transfer fee and since Luis Diaz has a release clause, whichever club can trigger it will be the ultimate winner.
