Benfica’s Darwin Nunez is currently one of the most sought-after strikers but he’s not interested in joining Manchester United or Newcastle United, as per RMC.
The two Premier League sides have been trying hard to sign the forward as soon as possible but Nunez is not ready to join a club who are not in the Champions League.
This main criteria automatically rules out Manchester United as well as Newcastle United because neither of them will be playing in the UCL next season. Much like Newcastle, Man United are also going into a rebuilding phase so it will take at least a couple of more years before they are back amongst the big boys.
Darwin Nunez has been one of the best strikers this season, scoring 26 goals in 28 league matches and Benfica are ready to part ways with him in the summer – for the right price.
Can Man United or Newcastle United convince Darwin Nunez?
We highly doubt if Newcastle United will be able to get their hands on Nunez but Man United will definitely not give up without a fight.
United are ready to spend around €80 million for the striker and if Erik ten Hag can convince that they will get back in the Champions League in 2023 then Nunez might change his mind.
Cavani will be leaving in the summer and Ronaldo will possibly head out next year so if Darwin Nunez chooses to join Manchester United, he will be the undisputed No 9 at Old Trafford next season.
Are Arsenal going to miss out on Darwin Nunez as well?
Arsenal are the third team who are interested in the 22-year-old but if Champions League is his main priority then Darwin Nunez is going to snub them as well.
Arsenal look all set to miss out on the fourth spot in the league table and if they are not back in the top-tier of European football then Mikel Arteta will not only fall out of the Nunez’s transfer race but several other big stars will refuse to join them.
Thankfully, Arsenal are also tracking other forwards like Gabriel Jesus so it won’t be a big blow if Darwin Nunez refuses to head to join them.
